What are executive physicals?

Executive physicals are comprehensive physical examinations Dr. Grewal and his team offer to ensure you’re in good health or detect health issues before serious complications arise. Your employer might cover the cost of executive physicals or require you have them as a condition of employment.

What happens during executive physicals?

Vital signs check/medical history review

The first portion of an executive physical includes a vital signs check and medical history review. Your provider evaluates your weight, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs. They ask questions about past medical diagnoses, medications you’re taking, prior surgeries, personal and family history of disease, and symptoms you may have.

Physical examination

During the physical examination portion of your executive physical, your provider examines your eyes, ears, throat, breathing, reflexes, abdomen, heartbeat, and more. They offer pelvic exams in women to evaluate reproductive health and Pap tests when needed to screen for cervical cancer. You might be due for a vision or hearing screening too.

Diagnostic testing

If you’re at risk of developing a health problem or you experience new or unusual symptoms, family medicine experts at Houston Family MD might recommend you undergo diagnostic tests. Examples include blood tests, urine tests, electrocardiograms (EKGs), cardiovascular testing,  tissue biopsy, asthma and allergy testing, X-rays, or other imaging procedures.

Do I need treatment?

Based on the results of your executive physical exam and diagnostic tests, Dr. Grewal and his team might recommend treatments to help you better manage a disease or prevent complications. They may suggest the following:
